Dr. Alicia Rodriguez-Pla, MD, PhD, MPH
Rheumatologist
Dr. Rodriguez-Pla earned her medical degree from the University of Navarra in Spain and completed rheumatology training in Barcelona (Spain). She got her Ph.D. from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, working on giant cell arteritis. Her interest in vasculitis led her to pursue post-doctoral training in the U.S. from 2003 to 2007, as a visiting post-doctoral research fellow at Johns Hopkins University.
During her last two years at Johns Hopkins, she was funded through a Vasculitis Clinical Research Consortium (VCRC)/Vasculitis Foundation (VF) fellowship. She also received a Master's in Public Health (MPH) degree at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition, she worked in lupus research at Baylor Institute for Immunology Research in Dallas, before completing a clinical fellowship in rheumatology at Boston University, where her interest in scleroderma increased.
She completed a residency in internal medicine at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA. She worked as an Assistant Professor in the Rheumatology Division at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and at Mayo Clinic Arizona, before becoming the Rheumatology Division Chief at UCSF Fresno in September 2022, where she was also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine. While at the University of Arizona, she was the Director of the Vasculitis Center and the Co-Director of the Scleroderma Program. At Mayo Clinic Arizona, she was the Director of the Vasculitis Program. In May 2023, she joined Sierra Pacific Arthritis and Rheumatology Centers. She is a physician-scientist, and her main interests are vasculitis, scleroderma, and IgG4-related disease. She is interested in translational and clinical research.
